A few months ago a colleague of mine began insisting that I begin blogging. I was flatered that she felt like I had something to offer the blogging world. Yet I began asking myself the classic question. WHY? Have you ever found yourself there? Great ideas or oppurtunities come your way and the first thought is why?? I decided to take a different approach to this decision and maybe all of the decisions I make for the rest of my life. Instead of asking WHY? I choose to ask WHY NOT? In this case why not blog? But, in your life you may be askng the same question. What current life decision are you in the middle of? Is it big, like changing jobs, partners or houses? Is it small like a diet, buying a grill, or visiting a new place?
If I start with the question why not?, I must ask the following:
1. Will this harm me or my family?
2. Will any one die or disown me?
3. Will it lead to my financial ruin?
4. Can I change my mind?
Now I know this sounds silly, but when we start with WHY?, we think about who will this benefit, who will care, who will read it, who will think I am crazy? Well this leads us down a rabbit hole. I am not good enough, rich enough, wise enough, popular enough. It becomes impossible and not worth it very quickly. If instead I answer the WHY NOT? question I come up with the following answers. 1. No this will not harm my family. Matter of fact they know that writing and sharing is a release for me and it might make me easier to live with. 2. Of course I won't die or be disowned!!(at least I hope). 3. The last I checked blogging was free so I am good here also. 4. Yes, if the blogging world hates me I can just stop or they can stop reading no harm no foul.
Now it's your turn!! Name it. What is the decision you are trying to make? Ask yourself those 4 questions.
If you are like me you came up with the of course not answers. Now ask yourself..........WHY NOT?? Why not try to walk a 5k for the first time ever, why not join a book club, why not seek the advice of others? When you ask WHY NOT the possiblities are endless. Of course if the decision is big like marriage, child rearing or life and death please ask these questions and then seek wise counsel. However, if you start asking WHY NOT when it comes to little decisions maybe the big decisons will follow.
So friends here it is, I am a blogger!! Join me won't you?
Much Love, Becky
