High gas prices may be making you feel trapped this summer. However, it's a great oppurtunity to explore your local area and find fun things to do that may even be free. Our City has a local tourism board and all of the local happenings are listed there. If you live in or near Mansfield, Ohio go here http://www.mansfieldtourism.com/things-to-do and check out what's going on. If you don't live here google your town and state and tourism. See what comes up. Another great place to look is for your local State Parks. We are fortunate here. We have the Gorman Nature Center, the Ohio Bird Sanctuary, Malabar Farms, and Mohican right at our back door.
Pick one day a week and plan a picnic, go on a hike, explore a farmers market. Your kids will love it!!
Also, don't count out the library. Most have summer reading clubs with weekly free events for all age groups. Did you know that as soon as a movie can be rented at redbox it is most likely available at the library to rent for free???
SUMMER FUN IDEA: Check out the book Mr. Poppers Penguins. Read it as a family. Just gather somewhere and have outloud reading time. A chapter or two a night. When the book is finished take your kids to see the movie. We have a 2nd run theater here and on Mondays if you go with 4 or more people it is 75cents each. That means we have all summer to read the book and then the movie should be at our theater.
Also google Free Bowling. Many bowling alleys participate and if you register, your kids can bowl for free twice a week. You do have to rent shoes.
You don't have to have a lot of money to enjoy your summer. You don't have to stay home either!!
Please leave a comment with your free family favorite ideas.
Much Love,
Becky
